Born June 15, 1964, in Birmingham, Alabama, Courteney Bass Cox is an American actress, director, and producer. Her big break was appearing in Bruce Springsteen's 1984 music video for "Dancing in the Dark." She had a recurring role on Family Ties, a guest spot on Seinfeld, and appeared in films like Mr. Destiny and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective before earning the role of Monica Gellar on Friends. Cox originally auditioned for the role of Rachel Green but was cast as Monica instead. With the phenomenal success of Friends, Cox, along with co-stars Lisa Kudrow and Jennifer Aniston, became one of the highest-paid TV actresses of all time at $1 million per episode for the final two seasons. Cox also starred in the financially successful Scream films and in series Dirt and Cougar Town, for which she has also directed several episodes. Cox married actor David Arquette, with whom she had one daughter, Coco. Arquette and Cox divorced in 2013.
